Nigeria Ayo Fayose, Fani-Kayode, Other Death Wishers, Hide As Upbeat Buhari Speaks From London

For months, the governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, and former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, claimed in many statements that Nigerian leader, Muhammadu Buhari, was "a dying Ghost" who was on life support.

Facing the cameras in Ekiti, Governor Fayose claimed Mr. Buhari had been on life support since June 6.

But on Saturday August 12, when Mr. Buhari appeared upbeat during a visit by his media team, his critics in chief hid their heads in shame.

Fani-Kayode and Fayose are known for spreading fake news and raising false alarms. These fake statements are often not challenged by the media, and this seems to have emboldened them to spread out more unsubstantiated information.

Mr. Buhari said on Saturday that he was feeling much better in London and left to him, he would be in back in Nigeria by now, "but I've learnt to obey my doctor's orders, rather than be the one issuing the orders. Here, the doctor is absolutely in charge."

Some Nigerians have been protesting in recent days for Mr. Buhari, who has been treating himself in London since May 7, to resume work or resign. Other Nigerians staged counter protests in favour Mr. Buhari.

With the crisis escalating, his media team travelled to London to see him and on Saturday when he received the presidential media team, along with the Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters, at Abuja House in London, Mr. Buhari said left to him, he would have returned to Nigeria but his doctors have asked him to remain there for now, the presidency said in a statement.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, led the visiting team, accompanied by Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity; Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, and Lauretta Onochie, Personal Assistant on Digital/Online Media. Also there was Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters.

According to the presidency, when the visiting team 'expressed delight at the much improved health of the President', he retorted: "I feel I could go home, but the doctors are in charge. I've now learnt to obey orders, rather than be obeyed."

The statement added: "On how he felt hearing different conjectures about his health, an amused President Buhari said he followed events at home closely, lauding Nigerian television stations, and the media generally, for keeping him informed.

"When told that prayers were going on fervently for him, not only in Nigeria, but all over Africa, and round the world, a delighted President said: "What we did in The Gambia early this year fetched us a lot of goodwill on the African continent. It gave us a lot of latitude. I thank all those who are praying. May God reward them."

"President Buhari sent appreciation to all Nigerians, expressing hope that he would be with them soon
